COVID-19 is placing unprecedented stress on the Canadian healthcare system. Healthcare providers and policy makers are struggling to ensure that they can make the right decisions to minimize mortality for Canadians in the face of demand will far exceed capacity. Realtime data is required urgently in all domains of the healthcare system in order to evaluate the impact of policies and care protocols. Unfortunately, much of the required data is collected and shared by provincial health systems and is either not available, delayed or not comprehensive.

During the webinar, we will share a plan for a ‘COVID-19 Tracker’ that includes the impact of policy and care delivery processes on key health outcome metrics across all healthcare domains, in a manner that will facilitate rapid comparative analysis, predictive modelling, and generation of rapidly updated evidence-informed guidance. Our webinar is intended for healthcare leaders. Our request is that all provinces urgently improve access to real-time healthcare data to help us fight COVID-19 and save the lives of Canadians.

About Monika Slovinec D’Angelo

Monika

Dr. Monika Slovinec D’Angelo is a health behaviour scientist with extensive national and international experience leading, developing, implementing, and evaluating strategic health promotion initiatives, healthcare intervention programs, and healthcare models at organizational and systems levels.

In her current role as the Director of the Health Portfolio at the Conference Board of Canada, she leads strategic research and convening programs in the areas of healthcare system improvement, with a focus on approaches for optimizing value for both patients and the system, and workplace health, with a focus on supporting organizational performance through strategies and tools for promoting the wellbeing and safety of employees.

About Doug Woodhouse

Doug

Douglas Woodhouse is a physician-engineer with both clinical and consulting experience in healthcare. Douglas applies tools and techniques from other industries in healthcare to improve efficiency and safety. He has worked with over 150 healthcare teams across Europe and North America to improve their clinical processes. He currently works as a hospitalist physician, runs his own healthcare consulting company and is a Medical Director with the Alberta Physician Learning Program leading a team dedicated to supporting data-driven process improvement.

Douglas has personal experience working in health systems in Canada, the Netherlands and the United States and an understanding of how policy and system design impact care delivery. Previously, Douglas lived in the Netherlands and worked as a Senior Consultant at Plexus (now KPMG-Plexus), a leading consultancy in European healthcare.

Douglas obtained his medical degree at Queen's University and completed his training as a Family Physician at the University of Alberta. He has worked as a hospitalist, emergency physician and in primary care. Douglas holds academic appointments at the University of Calgary and at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine.

Douglas has a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was previously responsible for process design and quality control for a large electronics manufacturing company and ran his own business providing consulting services for enterprise resource planning software
